Wuthering Waves Endgame Guide: Tower of Adversity & Whimpering Wastes
Wuthering Waves has three endgame modes: Tower of Adversity, Whimpering Wastes and Endstate Matrix. Together they pay out 3,000 Astrite once, 1,600 more per reset cycle, and 400 per Endstate Matrix cycle. Here is how each one works, what resets, and what to clear first.
The three modes at a glance
One is from Huanglong's launch era, one came with Rinascita, one only opens once you have shown you can clear the other two. The unlock gates and reset behaviour are the part people get wrong, so here is the summary first.
| Mode | Unlock | Type | What resets |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tower of Adversity | Union Level 15 | Permanent challenge | Hazard Zone, on a recurring cycle |
| Whimpering Wastes | Union Level 30 + tutorial quest | Permanent challenge | Respawning Waters: Chasm & Torrents, on a recurring cycle |
| Endstate Matrix | 24 Tower crests + 3,500 Torrents points in one phase | Recurring event | Phases reset with each version update |
The permanent zones pay out once. The resetting content pays again each cycle, and that distinction drives every number below.
Tower of Adversity: the first endgame you hit
Tower of Adversity sits in the Central Plains of Huanglong and unlocks at Union Level 15, which most players reach before the main story is half done. The wiki calls it "the Huaxu Academy's experimental project," and it works like a gauntlet: four zones, each made of floors, each floor a fight with a crest objective. Clearing a zone unlocks the next.
Two mechanics matter. First, every clear drains Vigor from the resonators you brought, and Vigor does not regenerate over time; once a unit hits zero Vigor it cannot fight again, and you recover it with the Reset option on a floor. You cannot steamroll with one team, and you are expected to rotate. Second, the first three zones, Stable, Experiment and Overdrive, are permanent. The Hazard Zone is the repeatable part: the wiki states its challenges "are periodically reset, along with your progression, bringing in new enemies, challenge goals, Area Effects, and rewards."
| Zone | Payout (wiki totals) |
|---|---|
| Stable + Experiment + Overdrive (one-time) | 2,200 Astrite · 470 Hazard Record · 18 Advanced Resonance Potion · 15 Advanced Energy Core · 13 Advanced Sealed Tube · 550,000 Shell Credit |
| Hazard Zone (per cycle) | 800 Astrite · 840 Hazard Record · plus potions, cores, tubes and Shell Credit across 12 milestones |
The 800 Astrite is the sum of the cycle's 12 milestone rows (eight at 75, four at 50), and 840 is the sum of the Hazard Record column; both are arithmetic on the wiki's published table, not guesses. Hazard Records are the mode's currency, spent at the Adversity Exchange on things like Phantom Echoes and Premium Tuners. The one-time 2,200 Astrite is the biggest lump of endgame currency in the game, which is why Tower of Adversity comes first.
Whimpering Wastes: Rinascita's two-team arena
Whimpering Wastes is the Rinascita endgame, added in Version 2.1, and it asks for more: Union Level 30 and the tutorial quest "Ocean Is a Soul's Rest." Each challenge takes two separate teams, one per stage, and every team must equip a Token that modifies the fight. Completing a challenge consumes one Token use; Reset restores uses, and new Tokens unlock the first time you clear a challenge.
The mode has three areas. Forbidden Waters is a one-time clear. Respawning Waters: Chasm and Torrents reset on a recurring cycle, wiping progress so you can claim the rewards again.
| Area | Payout (wiki totals) |
|---|---|
| Forbidden Waters (one-time) | 800 Astrite · 100 Premium Tuner · 12 Premium Sealed Tube · 6 Premium Resonance Potion · 6 Premium Energy Core · 10 Advanced Resonance Potion · 10 Advanced Energy Core · 300,000 Shell Credit |
| Respawning Waters: Chasm + Torrents (per cycle) | 800 Astrite · 150 Premium Tuner · 10 Premium Sealed Tube · 10 Premium Resonance Potion · 10 Premium Energy Core · 450,000 Shell Credit |
Whimpering Wastes is also the gatekeeper for the third mode: Endstate Matrix requires 3,500 points in one phase of Respawning Waters: Torrents. That number is exactly the first reward milestone on the Torrents ladder, so the unlock is more formality than skill check.
Endstate Matrix: the version-spanning cycle
Endstate Matrix arrived in Version 3.2 as a recurring event with a different rhythm: its challenge cycles span multiple versions, split into phases that reset with version updates. The second cycle, Adversity Vanguard, was announced on July 15 ("After the Version 3.5 update, Endstate Matrix will enter its second Challenge Cycle, Adversity Vanguard. The challenge rules and rewards will also be updated") and opened July 17, 2026. Per the wiki it runs from Version 3.5 through 3.8, making it endgame content with a real multi-patch shelf life.
| Adversity Vanguard phase | Window (per the wiki) |
|---|---|
| Phase 1 (3.5) | July 17, 2026 04:00 – August 19, 2026 20:59 (server time) |
| Phase 2 (3.6) | From the 3.6 update – before the 3.7 maintenance. Live now. |
| Phases 3–4 (3.7, 3.8) | One phase per version, same pattern |
The current phase started with Version 3.6 on August 20 and resets when 3.7's maintenance lands. If you have the unlock, the phase tasks are live and their Encrypted Data is claimable today.
Format-wise this mode asks the most of your roster: teams of three with a Power Circuit equipped, and no weapon or echo may appear on two different resonators in a run. Stability Accords allows up to three teams and is cleared in a single round; Singularity Expansion has no team limit, and every round cleared spawns a stronger one for the next team. The wiki lists this cycle's enemy rotation as Matrix Swarm, Mourning Aix, Fleurdelys, Reactor Husk and Matrix Mimic.
Tasks come in two flavours. Three Cycle Tasks per phase reset at the start of each phase, and the wiki says up to 600 Encrypted Data can come from them; Challenge Tasks are one-off (four in Phase 1, three per phase afterwards) and last the whole cycle. Encrypted Data is cleared when the cycle ends, so it is not bankable across cycles.
| Adversity Vanguard cycle total (per the wiki) | Amount |
|---|---|
| Astrite | 400 |
| Shell Credit | 800,000 |
| Premium Tuner / Premium Sealed Tube | 400 / 35 |
| Premium Enclosure Tank III / Morphable Overlord Class Echo | 20 / 30 |
| Collectibles | "Past the Endstate: Adversity Vanguard" sigil · "Projection: Blade of a Thousand Arts" weapon projection · "Until We Meet Again" |
400 Astrite is the reward for the whole four-version cycle, not per phase, which makes Endstate Matrix the weakest pure-Astrite mode of the three. Its real draw is the exclusive sigil and weapon projection, which end with the cycle.
Version 3.6's patch notes also touched this mode: result screens for all three endgame modes can now be shared across platforms, Endstate Matrix's rewards screen gained a Weapon Projection preview, and the Medal screen got a visual pass.
The Astrite math, totalled
| Bucket | Total | Pulls at 160 Astrite each |
|---|---|---|
| One-time: Tower permanent (2,200) + Whimpering Wastes Forbidden Waters (800) | 3,000 | 18.75 |
| Per reset cycle: Tower Hazard Zone (800) + Whimpering Wastes cyclic (800) | 1,600 | 10 |
| Per Endstate Matrix cycle | 400 | 2.5 |
Put that next to the patch economy: our astrite-per-patch guide counts 2–3 Tower Hazard Zone resets per patch, so the Tower alone pays 1,600–2,400 Astrite a patch, with Whimpering Wastes' 800-per-cycle on top. A fully active F2P player earns roughly 10,000–11,000 per patch, so the resets are a meaningful slice of every patch's budget. A featured 5-star still costs up to 12,800 at hard pity; endgame is the baseline that makes pity math survivable, not the thing that funds a banner by itself.
What to clear first
New players: Tower of Adversity, no contest. It unlocks at Union 15, its one-time 2,200 Astrite is the biggest single payout in the game, and you can work through the permanent zones at your own pace. Whimpering Wastes is second, once you are Union 30 and have the quest done, for another 800 one-time plus the cyclic 800.
Veterans: flip to the resetting content. Hazard Zone milestones and both Respawning Waters ladders refresh on their own timers, and the Endstate Matrix phase is live until the 3.7 maintenance, so its Cycle Tasks are the time-limited part right now. If you are still missing the Adversity Vanguard sigil or projection, that is the one item with an actual expiry date.
FAQ
3,000 one-time (Tower permanent zones plus Whimpering Wastes Forbidden Waters), 1,600 per reset cycle (Tower Hazard Zone plus both Respawning Waters areas), and 400 per Endstate Matrix cycle. All numbers are the wiki's published totals or direct sums of its tables.
For pulls, Tower and Whimpering Wastes are where the Astrite is; Endstate Matrix's 400 per cycle is small but its sigil and weapon projection are exclusive to the current cycle. The modes also chain: Endstate Matrix will not unlock until you have 24 crests in one Tower phase and 3,500 points in one Torrents phase.
The wiki only says periodically, with progress wiped each time. Our astrite-per-patch guide counts 2–3 Tower Hazard resets per patch; for the exact next reset, the in-game countdown on the mode's screen is the source of truth.
They are Tower of Adversity's currency, earned from every zone, and spent at the Adversity Exchange on things like Phantom Echoes and Premium Tuners. The 470 from the permanent zones plus 840 per Hazard cycle build up fast.
Yes. Adversity Vanguard's Phase 2 started with the 3.6 update on August 20 and runs until the 3.7 maintenance, per the wiki's phase schedule. The official announcement for the cycle went out July 15.
