Wuthering Waves Calamity Effigy Guide: Echo, Drops & Farming
3.6's new Overlord boss in Xuanyuan Domain drops Forged Empyrean's Sigh, the ascension material for Qingxiao and Jingran, plus a cost-4 Aero echo.
The new boss, and the new echo, in Xuanyuan Domain
Version 3.6 shipped a new Overlord boss alongside its new area. The official maintenance notice for the patch lists "[New Echo] Calamity Effigy" and "[New Area] Xuanyuan Domain" in the same section, and you reach both during the main quest Chapter IV Act III, "Song of the Heart Sword". The fandom wiki classifies Calamity Effigy as an Overlord-class Autopuppet that deals Aero damage, and places the spawn at Verdant Court, Xuanfang Hold.
The in-game description calls it "a mystic Autopuppet that strolls in the sky. An epitome of mechanist arts at their peak." The flavor text on its drop item goes darker: it "walked the Way to its end and found nothing further. Only a sigh, drifting off on the wind." Lore aside, the boss matters for two practical reasons. It drops the 3.6 resonator ascension material, and its echo is a cost-4 Aero piece with a passive that is easy to misread.
Boss facts: resistances and two damage quirks
The wiki's stat table gives the boss 40% Aero RES and 10% to the other elements. That is the short version of "do not fight this with an Aero team." The irony is not lost on anyone farming it for Qingxiao, who is Aero herself and needs exactly this boss's material. Bring Fusion, Havoc or Electro damage instead.

The two quirks matter more than the resistance. First, "Negative Status" is the wiki's umbrella term for the stackable element debuffs: Fusion Burst, Glacio Chafe, Aero Erosion, Electro Flare, Spectro Frazzle and Havoc Bane. Any of them sitting on the boss gives you +20% damage for 6 seconds. Havoc Bane is the easiest to justify, since it also cuts the target's DEF by 2% per stack, up to three.
Second, the boss takes double Electro Flare damage. That is a specific DoT, and per the wiki's combat-role page exactly two Resonators can apply it: Rover-Electro and Buling. If you have either one built, they are the counter pick here.
One honest gap: the wiki has no ability or moveset breakdown for the boss yet, so this guide stops where the data stops. The in-game boss is the source of truth for attack patterns.
The drop that matters: Forged Empyrean's Sigh
Claiming the boss's rewards costs 60 Waveplates, and the headline drop is Forged Empyrean's Sigh, a Resonator Ascension Material. The wiki's item page lists exactly two Resonators that use it: Qingxiao and Jingran. That makes this single boss the shared material bottleneck for both of 3.6's new five-stars.
Qingxiao players are farming it right now. Going from 0 to 6★ takes 46 of them, per our Qingxiao kit guide. Jingran arrives in Phase 2, which starts September 10 at 10:00 server time, and she needs the same material. So if you are planning to pull her, you can start banking Forged Empyrean's Sigh this week instead of grinding it on day one of her banner. The boss is not going anywhere, and the material has no expiry.
The echo: cost 4, Aero, and a conditional with a catch
The echo, Calamity Effigy (X71 in the wiki's numbering), is an Overlord-class cost-4 piece. Regular type, no Phantom appearance, no Nightmare variant, rarity 2-5★. Its skill, per the wiki's transcription:
"Transform into Calamity Effigy to deal 270.00% Aero DMG. The Resonator with this Echo equipped in the main slot gains 10.00% Aero DMG Bonus, and additionally gains 10.00% Aero DMG Bonus for 15s when inflicting Tune Strain - Shifting on the target. CD: 25s."
The flat part is fine: 10% Aero DMG Bonus for slotting it, plus a 270% transform hit. The conditional is where it gets strange. "When inflicting Tune Strain - Shifting" means the holder has to apply that debuff, and per the wiki's kit docs the only Resonators who can apply Shifting are Denia, Luuk Herssen and Lynae: Fusion, Spectro and Spectro respectively. None of them is Aero, so no current Aero character can trigger the second 10%. The conditional is aimed at a future Aero Shifting-applier, and today it does nothing.
The set pairing is the real story. Calamity Effigy rolls only two sonatas, both released in 3.5:
- Heart of Evil's Purge: 2-piece Aero DMG +10%; 5-piece "Inflicting Tune Strain - Shifting increases Crit. DMG by 20% and Aero DMG Bonus by 30% for 15s."
- Lamp of Nether Road: 2-piece HP +10%; 5-piece gains Crit. Rate when gaining a Shield, stacking up to 4 times, with +15% Fusion DMG Bonus at max stacks.
For an Aero build, the second set is irrelevant. The first one is the whole point.
Who actually wants it: the Qingxiao question
Our Qingxiao kit guide settled on Sierra Gale as her default set: 10% Aero DMG on two pieces, 30% more Aero DMG for 15s after her Intro Skill on five. The reason was self-sufficiency. Sierra Gale asks nothing of your teammates. Heart of Evil's Purge asks for Tune Strain - Shifting, and Qingxiao cannot apply it herself.
The set is still a genuine option for Qingxiao teams that run a Shifting applier, and Phase 1 is literally shipping one beside her: Denia is on the rerun banner until September 10. In that comp, Heart of Evil's Purge hands out +20% Crit. DMG and +30% Aero DMG for 15s whenever Shifting lands, which out-buffs Sierra Gale's post-Intro window. And here is the part that makes Calamity Effigy relevant: it is the only cost-4 Aero echo in the set. The other cost-4 member, Myriad Snare: Rustfire Chassis, is a Fusion / Heavy Attack piece with the wrong damage profile. If you run the set, Calamity Effigy is your main slot by default.

No sims exist for any of this yet, so treat the verdict as reasoning from kit text, not tested numbers. The practical read: Qingxiao with Denia, Luuk Herssen or Lynae makes Heart of Evil's Purge plus Calamity Effigy a real alternative to Sierra Gale plus Feilian. Qingxiao without a Shifting applier stays on Sierra Gale, and Calamity Effigy is not an upgrade there, because its set and hers do not overlap and its conditional is dead anyway.
Farming plan
The boss lives in Xuanyuan Domain, unlocked through the 3.6 main quest, and each reward claim costs 60 Waveplates. Who should farm it:
- Qingxiao owners: now. 46 Forged Empyrean's Sigh to take her from 0 to 6★.
- Jingran planners: before September 10. Same material, same boss, no need to wait for her banner.
- Heart of Evil's Purge builders: the echo drops from the same claim, so there is no separate farm.
Bring non-Aero damage, slap on a Negative Status if your team has one, and slot Rover-Electro or Buling if you want the doubled Electro Flare damage. The wiki also lists no trophies for this boss, so there is no completion reason to fight it beyond the material and the echo.
